Privacy
This site collects nothing that identifies you. There is no sign up, no form, no account and no way to tell one visitor from another.
No cookies and no tracking
No cookies are set. There is no tag manager, no pixel, no advertising and nothing that follows you from one site to another.
Counting pages
Pages are counted, because the only way to find out whether this site is worth keeping is to know whether anybody uses it. The counting is done by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which each page loads from Cloudflare. It records that a page was viewed and where the visit came from, such as a link on a village Facebook page.
Cloudflare states that it does not use cookies or local storage to track visitors, does not fingerprint them by IP address or browser, and does not collect visitors' personal data. A village page reloading itself every minute is not counted again.
That script is the one thing a page loads from anywhere else. Every page is still served with a content security policy that forbids the browser from loading anything else from anywhere else, so no other tracker could be added by accident.
The one thing your browser remembers
If you choose the dark or light setting, that choice is stored in your own browser under the name heathfold-theme. It never leaves your device, it is never sent anywhere, and nobody here can read it. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Serving the page
The site runs on Cloudflare, which delivers it to you. As with any website, your request has to reach a server to be answered, and Cloudflare processes it for that purpose and to keep the service running and secure, under its own terms. This site adds no logging of its own, keeps no record of who asked for what, and stores nothing about visitors.
What the site does store
What is stored is readings, not people. The latest answer from each feed is kept for a few hours so that a page can be shown quickly and so that a figure survives a source going down. A river level, a rainfall total and a forecast are the whole of it. None of it is about you, and none of it changes depending on who is visiting.
Links out
Following a link away from here, to the Environment Agency, to Realtime Trains, to a village's own website or anywhere else, takes you to somebody else's site, with its own privacy policy and very probably its own cookies. Those are nothing to do with this one.
Your rights
Data protection law gives you rights over personal data held about you, including the right to see it and the right to have it deleted. No personal data is held here, so there is nothing to show you and nothing to delete. That is the intention rather than an oversight.
Asking about any of this
Questions about this page, or about anything this site does or does not do with data, go to hello@heathfold.uk.
Writing to that address is the one way you can hand over something personal here, because an email carries your address and whatever you put in it. Those messages sit in a mailbox like anybody else's, they are used only to answer you, and they are not added to anything, shared with anybody or used to work out who visited what.
